Childhood Abuse

Physical harm might be the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the word 'child abuse'. However, the definition can be known as someone doing something to harm a child or failing to do something resulting in a negative consequence. Child abuse, also known as child maltreatment, is considered a medical condition that occurs when a guardian is harming their child sexually, physically, or emotionally. Each year about 3.6 million referrals to child abuse are made(not including the ones that don't get sworn in),and every 10 seconds there is a report being called in to agencies of child maltreatment. There are four different types of child abuse: Neglect, sexual, emotional, and physical.

Neglect: When the basic needs of a child is not being met, such as education, health care, supervision, etc.

Sexual: Also known as child molestation, occurs when a child is used as a sexual object for an adult.

Emotional: This form of abusive effects the child mentally. It's when an adult harms a child through their actions and words.

Physical: A child is harmed by his/her caregiver with evidence of an injury or injuries.

When adults are older they are more opened about being abused as a child, the percentages of each type of child abuse are;

Sexual: 20.3%

Emotional: 10.6%

Physical: 28.3&
